By installing campus network infrastructure to enable OEC to get off of carrier-provided phone and internet service, ITS CommTech was able to save OEC more than $5,000 per year. The center is located down the hill and through the woods … Continued
The Communication Technologies Funding Model, which provides a defined lifecycle refresh budget, continues to make such upgrades possible. All network switches across campus are now capable of delivering a minimum of a gigabit per second of throughput to each individual … Continued
The Pinnacle project transitioned ITS from a client-server application billing system to a web-based cloud billing system that fully supports the University’s new voice-over-IP service deployed to 17,406 users. Launched in October 2017, Pinnacle supports 2,624 active business units on … Continued
ITS Communication Technologies’ Transport Operations unit has installed miles of fiber and cable on campus that will enable the Athletics department to provide live video and data for the ACC Digital Network that ESPN and the Atlantic Coast Conference are launching in 2019.
The purpose of this project is to install a network of fiber optic cable for the sole use of video transmission from each athletic venue on campus back to Athletics’ video production studio.
ITS Communication Technologies upgraded the University’s networking core to provide more reliable and faster transport for traffic between different parts of campus, including between classrooms, departments and the data center.
This was the first audit of this kind since ConnectCarolina went live in 2013. Guiding ITS through this nine-month audit process, as she has for the past nine years, was Mechelle Clayton. Working closely with Clayton was Kim Stahl, IT … Continued
In two changes over May and June 2018, ITS Communication Technologies deployed a new tool — Infoblox — to replace the in-house applications that run the University’s Domain Name System and IP address management.
During the fiscal year, the Engineering unit within ITS Communication Technologies continued to lead and participate in community fiber collaborations. These efforts have resulted in new fiber connectivity initiatives — and have paved the way for future opportunities — that save money, improve bandwidth and reliability, increase flexibility and enable new business prospects.
Over the past year, ITS collaborated with schools, departments and groups across campus to protect sensitive data by rolling out 2-Step Verification on systems that are most likely to be attacked by phishers, including administrative systems and email.
